UNC Asheville's Family Business Forum will host a program on "Valuing the Family Business" from 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Feb. 18, in UNCA’s Reuter Center. An optional lunch buffet will immediately follow the program. The presentation will be given by Crisp Hughes Evans LLP partners James F. Joyner and Gary L. Mathes.
Joyner is a partner in the Upstate South Carolina Practice Unit of Crisp Hughes Evans LLP, a regional certified public accounting and professional services firm operating in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. In addition to his responsibilities with the coordination of audit and tax services, Jim’s areas of focus include business valuation, litigation support and employee benefit plans.
Mathes is a tax partner in the Asheville office of Crisp Hughes Evans. His experience includes business valuation and litigation services, tax planning, forensic accounting and mergers and acquisitions. He previously served for several years as a special agent with the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS and as a tax manager for Touch Ross & Co. (now Deloitte & Touche).
UNCA's Family Business Forum, the first program of its kind in the region, was developed to enhance the continued viability of family-owned businesses in the Asheville area. Membership in the forum is open to firms that have a family member with controlling interest in the business and at least one family member currently employed in the business. In addition to seminars and workshops, members receive current research and articles on family business issues, a quarterly newsletter and the opportunity to network with other family-owned business members who face similar challenges of perpetuating a family business.
Registration for the workshop is required. The program is open to forum members and their guests; a limited number of seats are available for family business owners interested in membership.
For more information or to register, call Richard Lasher, at 828/251-6797, voice mail box 8003.
