UNCA Names Distinguished Staff Members of the Year

The 2003 UNC Asheville Distinguished Staff Member of the Year award was recently presented to Elise Henshaw, Health and Fitness Department program assistant, and Roger Penley, grounds crew leader. The annual award is given to a staff member who has gone beyond his or her job and who significantly contributes to the campus community.

The award is based, in part, on faculty and staff nominations. Henshaw, of Weaverville, coordinates the annual blood drive, is active in the Alumni Association and has served on a number of campus committees. One nomination statement said, "Evidence of her love and commitment can be seen in the life of each student who has been and continues to be inspired by Elise to achieve his/her greatest potential."

Penley, a resident of Leicester, is "the kind of person that we would all like to be. Roger and his crew are a great asset to UNCA, not only for what they do, but for how they do it," read one nomination.
