UNCA to Host Dramatic Portrayal of Sojourner Truth's Life

UNC Asheville will host a dramatic portrayal of Sojourner Truth featuring Kathryn Woods at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in UNCA's Lipinsky Auditorium. The program was originally scheduled for February 19, as part of UNCA's Black History Month. The event is free and open to the public.

Using a text based on Sojourner Truth's own words, Woods will recreate scenes from Truth's life, as she journeyed through pre- and post-Civil War America, preaching against slavery and for the rights of women. Woods has performed in Boston for 16 years. Her credits include performances with Theatreworks, People's Theatre, The Wheelock Family Theatre and the Underground Railway Theatre. Woods has also performed in Moscow and at the Edinburgh Arts Festival.
