Cynn Chadwick and Dannye Romine Powell
UNC Asheville's Writers at Home series continues with readings by Cynn
Chadwick and Dannye Romine Powell at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at Malaprop's
Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St. Writers at Home is part of the Great
Smokies Writing Program, a consortium of Western Carolina writers and
UNCA's Creative Writing Program. The event is free and open to the public.
Chadwick, a literature and language lecturer at UNCA, received her
master's degree in southern literature and a master of fine arts degree in
creative writing at Goddard College in Vermont. Chadwick's first novel,
"Cat Rising," was recently published and the sequel, "Girls
with Hammers," is a forthcoming publication. She is currently working
on the third book in the series entitled "Babies, Bikes and
Broads."
Powell, a distinguished poet, is the author of two collections of
poetry including "At Every Wedding Someone Stays Home" and
"The Ecstasy of Regret." Her poems have appeared in several
literary journals and have won fellowships in poetry from the NEA and the
North Carolina Arts Council. In the past Powell hosted "Poetry
Live," a public television series. She is currently a local news
columnist for The Charlotte Observer.
