UNCA Hosts Tri-State Sculptors Suitcase ShowUNC Asheville will host the Tri-State Sculptors Suitcase Show from February 7-25 in UNCA’s University Gallery. Selected works with dimensions scaled to fit within a suitcase will be featured. More than 35 pieces by 25 artists from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia will be on view. In association with the exhibition, noted artist Greg Shelnutt will give a talk at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the gallery. A reception will immediately follow his presentation. Shelnutt, who holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Georgia, has taught sculpture at the University of Mississippi and the University of Georgia’s Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy. He was a visiting artist at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia and has held residencies at the Community Council for the Arts in Kinston, N.C.; the Association for Visual Artists in Chattanooga, Tenn.; and the New York Mills Arts Retreat in New York Mills, Minn. In 1994, Shelnutt received a Visual Artists Fellowship from the Mississippi Arts Commission and an Emerging Artist Grant from the Jerome Foundation. His work has been shown in more than 150 solo, invitational, juried and group exhibitions both nationally and abroad.
