UNCA's Super Saturday Program Offers Super Classes for Kids

Gifted, creative and motivated 3rd-8th graders have an opportunity to explore martial arts, model rocketry, photography and much more at UNC Asheville’s 16th annual Super Saturday Program beginning March 1. The program has helped more than 10,500 children from across Western North Carolina explore their interests through hands-on learning on the UNCA campus.

New this year are a variety of unique courses. Students interested in science can sign up for "The Unhuggables" course to explore creepy creatures like snakes, lizards, frogs and spiders. Budding artists can explore alternative fabric designs or 3-D sculptures. For those who love great books, classes on "The Hobbit" and "The Narnia Adventure: Prince Caspian (Book 2)" will be available.

Many favorite courses from previous years will also be offered, including classes exploring computers, pottery, mathematics, drama and outdoor adventure skills.

Several UNCA faculty members and upper-level students teach Super Saturday classes, along with outstanding public school teachers, educators, and other professionals.

Super Saturday classes meet 9 a.m.-noon for six consecutive Saturdays beginning March 1. All students are welcome to apply. Tuition is $55 per class. Deadline to apply is February 21. For information or to request an application, call UNCA’s Office of Special Academic Programs at 828/251-6558.
