Picante Performs at UNCA's 21st Annual Concerts on the Quad Series July 7

Picante will spice things up when they take the stage from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, July 7, in the sixth installment of UNC Asheville’s free popular Concerts on the Quad series. The concert is free, and weather permitting, will take place on the Quad. In the event of rain, the performance will move to Lipinsky Auditorium, with shows at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. to seat as many patrons as possible.

Picante is know for their signature blend of Latin, rock, reggae, jazz and pop fusion music. This six-piece local band is made up of Ruben Orengo on violin, pianist Warren Gaughan, Dave de la Rosa on guitar and vocals, latin percussionist Ronnie Delerme, bassist Joel Pressman and Spencer Bolejack on percussion. Picante will have listeners dancing under the sunset.

UNCA's Concerts on the Quad brings fun to the entire family. The public is invited to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs. With between 1,000-3,000 people attending each concert, lawn-chair seating will be separate from blanket seating in order to preserve sight lines; please look for signage when arriving on the Quad.

New this year is Café a la Quad. Gourmet sandwiches, snacks, beverages, iced coffee and Sweet Heaven ice cream will be on sale for concert patrons from 6-8 p.m. Pizza will also be available.

Remaining concerts in the series are: Sons of Steel on July 14 and the Asheville performances of the 20th annual Folkmoot USA festival held in Lipinsky Auditorium on July 19-20. Folkmoot is the only ticketed event in the series. General admission tickets range from $15-$20 and half-price for children ages 12 and under. Tickets will be available for purchase at the remaining Concerts on the Quad or from UNCA's Office of Student Life as well as the Folkmoot USA office.
