UNCA to Host High School Media Career Workshop March 14
More than 70 future journalists from area high schools will hone their skills and meet media experts at UNC Asheville's Media Career Workshop Friday, March 14. Students from Erwin, Franklin, Pisgah, Owen and Reynolds High School will participate.
Sessions in newswriting, layout and design, yearbook design, photojournalism, Web design, and ethics will be offered. Special sessions for newspaper and yearbook advisors will also be available. Courses will be taught by UNCA mass communication faculty and other experts.
The workshop will wrap up with a panel discussion on "Crisis Coverage for Student Journalists" by former and current newspaper editors. Susan Carroll, Hendersonville Times news editor; and Jill Ingram, Hendersonville Times-News assistant news editor; and Geoff Cantrell, former regional editor of the Asheville Citizen-Times, will speak.
The day-long series of seminars is organized by UNCA's Mass Communication Department in cooperation with the N.C. Scholastic Media Association based at UNC Chapel Hill's School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
