UNCA Offers Law, History and Genealogy Continuing Education Classes

UNC Asheville will offer spring continuing education courses in law, history and genealogy. The classes are open to the public.

UNCA's Office of Special Academic Programs and the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers are co-sponsoring the course "People's Law School" from 6-8 p.m. Thursdays beginning March 13 in UNCA's Rhoades Robinson Hall, room 125. This six-week course will explore topics such as juvenile law, consumer protection and medical malpractice. The cost for the course is $25.

Mitzi Tessier, a resident of Asheville since 1953, will teach "History of Asheville and Buncombe County" from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays beginning April 1 at St. Paul's Methodist Church. This four-week course will be an exploration of Asheville and Buncombe County. Tessier, an author of two books about the area, will discuss subjects such as the Revolutionary War and characters like George Vanderbilt and Roger McGuire. The cost of the course is $55.

Tim Morrisey, a family historian, will teach "Genealogy: Ask Me About My Grandparents" from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning April 29 on the UNCA campus. This four-week course for beginners will aid students in using computers and other techniques to trace and record ancestors and descendants. The cost of the course is $60.
