UNCA's Family Business Forum to Host Talk
by Budd Group CFO
UNC Asheville's Family Business
Forum will host a program with Gerald L. Chrisco, chief financial
officer of the Budd Group, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at UNCA’s
Reuter Center.
Chrisco will share his insights from more than 22 years as chief
financial officer for the Budd Group. Based in Winston-Salem, the company
was founded in 1963 when Richard Budd purchased a struggling janitorial
company. Chrisco will describe the transition of the company from its
humble beginnings to its current position as a major business with $80
million in annual revenue. Chrisco’s discussion will also include a
discussion of the role of the chief financial officer in a family business
and the role of key non-family employees.
In addition to his role at the Budd Group, Chrisco is an adjunct
professor in the Wake Forest University MBA program. He holds a bachelor’s
degree in education from N.C. State University and a MBA from Wake Forest.
UNCA's Family Business Forum, the first program of its kind in the
region, was developed to enhance the continued viability of family-owned
businesses in the Asheville area. Membership in the forum is open to firms
that have a family member with controlling interest in the business and at
least one family member currently employed in the business. In addition to
seminars and workshops, members receive current research and articles on
family business issues, a quarterly newsletter and the opportunity to
network with other family-owned business members who face similar
challenges of perpetuating a family business.
Registration for the workshop is required. The program is open to forum
members and their guests; a limited number of seats are available for
family business owners interested in membership.
