UNCA's Family Business Forum Hosts Workshop on Creating
a Functioning Board of Directors in the Family Business
UNC Asheville's Family Business
Forum will host a workshop on creating and maintaining a
functioning board of advisors/directors in the family business with expert
Fredda Herz Brown at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Grove Park Inn
Resort and Spa.
Brown has led numerous seminars and courses for family businesses and
is a member of the editorial boards of the "Family Business
Review" and "The Family Business Client." A founding board
member of the Family Firm Institute (FFI), she helped spearhead the
development of the field and received the 1996 Hollander Award for her
contributions. As founding chair of the Body of Knowledge Committee, she
has focused the organization's efforts on family business education and
consultation. Her widely acclaimed book "Reweaving the Family
Tapestry," represents years of ongoing work with families. She is
writing a second book about building a family business.
UNCA's Family Business Forum, the first program of its kind in the
region, was developed to enhance the continued viability of family-owned
businesses in the Asheville area. Membership in the forum is open to firms
that have a family member with controlling interest in the business and at
least one family member currently employed in the business. In addition to
seminars and workshops, members receive current research and articles on
family business issues, a quarterly newsletter and the opportunity to
network with other family-owned business members who face similar
challenges of perpetuating a family business.
Registration for the workshop is required. The program is open to forum
members and their guests; a limited number of seats are available for
family business owners interested in membership.
