UNCA Professor Exhibits Work at Two Charlotte Galleries
Virginia Derryberry, UNC Asheville associate professor of art, is now showing recent paintings in two Charlotte galleries. Derryberry is a featured artist in the Summer Invitational Exhibition at the Hodges Taylor Gallery. The exhibition is on view through August 29. For more information about this exhibition, call 704/334-3799. Paintings by Derryberry are included in the traveling exhibition "Convergence," which features five university women artists. The exhibition is on view through September 26 at the Gallery at Carillon. It travels to the Ewing Gallery of Art at the University of Tennessee Knoxville in October. For more information about this exhibition, call 704/333-1296. Derryberry is an actively exhibiting artist. She has held six solo exhibitions at the Cumberland Gallery in Nashville, Tenn., and recently completed a commission for the Knoxville Convention Center. Her paintings are also in the collections of the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Tennessee State Museum, the Morris Museum of Art, the West Virginia Permanent Collection and in such corporate collections as Nationsbank, HBO and the Nashville International Airport. In recent years, Derryberry has received two Individual Arts grants from the Georgia Council for the Arts as well as the Governor's Award in West Virginia. A Tennessee native, Derryberry holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Tennessee and a master of arts degree from Peabody College. She has taught art full-time for 17 years at colleges and universities throughout the southeast. Media Contacts:
