UNCA Offers Creative Writing ClassesUNC Asheville will offer three fall continuing education courses in creative writing. The five-week classes, which will meet on the UNCA campus, are open to all interested writers. Cost is $65 per class. "Creating Unforgettable Characters" will meet from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning August 12. This course will apply practical techniques to stretch the writer’s imagination and breathe life into a story’s characters. Students will also explore the employment of mythic and archetypical personae. "Writing from the Heart: Stories that Heal" will meet from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays beginning August 14. Students will learn specific writing techniques for clarifying expression and how to fine-tune descriptive writing. The focus will be on using writing to share personal hurts and creating new stories leading toward healing. "Story Structures: Strengthening Your Plot Lines" will meet from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays beginning September 18. This course will help writers strengthen the organization and structure of their stories. Students will work on the beginning, middle and end of their stories, aids for writers block and varieties of style. The class is appropriate for fiction and non-fiction writers. Bobbie Pell, a Marshall native, will instruct all classes. Pell holds a master’s degree in English and composition from Western Carolina University and is a professional storyteller.
