UNCA to Host "Portraits of Chiapas" Photography Exhibition

"Portraits of Chiapas," an exhibition of 20 intimate color portraits of the indigenous Chiapas people by Spanish photographer Javier Nicolas, will be on view June 2-July 25 at UNC Asheville’s Blowers Gallery. An opening reception will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, in the gallery. The show and reception are free and open to the public.

The exhibition is being held in conjunction with a fundraising festival to benefit the Fray Bartolome Center for Human Rights in Chiapas, Mexico. The event, scheduled for Saturday, July 12, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium, will include a silent auction, documentary screenings, craft sales, children’s activities, music, dance and poetry.
