College for Seniors Offers Summer TermSummer leisure time presents the perfect opportunity to learn new things with others who share similar interests and curiosity. Choose from over 30 summer courses in UNC Asheville’s nationally renowned College for Seniors, a program of N.C. Center for Creative Retirement. With no tests, grades or prerequisites, the program offers participants ages 50 and older a range of classes -- some just two days and others spanning five weeks -- in arts and crafts, the humanities, personal development, contemporary issues, applied sciences, wellness and recreation. The operas of Vincenzo Bellini, oil painting, storytelling, belly dancing and Appalachian arts can be mixed with word processing, business ethics, Native American history and the study of forest fires. Try your hand at creating Tiffany-style glass, become a confident dancer, collect and use wild plants, learn to surf the Internet or participate in a stimulating Chautauqua Series. Courses are presented in a variety of ways, including lecture discussion, workshop, seminar and learning circle. There’s something for everyone and great companionship, too. The special College for Seniors summer term runs from June 30 to August 1. To accommodate visitors and summer-only residents, classes are individually priced from $25-$100. Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority enrollment and refunds for cancellations are given students who register by June 24. Classes will meet on the UNCA campus in the Reuter Center, the new home of the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement. Final information on class locations will be available after June 15. For more information or to enroll, call the College for Seniors Office at 828/251-6384. Media Contacts:
