Sculptor Melisa Cadell to Jury UNCA's 36th Annual
Student Art Exhibition

Local sculptor Melisa Cadell will be on the UNC Asheville campus April 9-11 to give a public talk and jury UNCA's student art exhibition. The events are free and open to the public.

Cadell will discuss and show slides of her recent work at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in UNCA's Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall. The focus of the talk will be Cadell's style of creating stylized works which depict the human form.

UNCA's 36th Annual Juried Student Exhibition opening reception will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, in UNCA's University Gallery, located on the first floor of Owen Hall. Exhibition awards and scholarship announcements will be made at 7:30 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view through April 29.

A member of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild, Cadell grew up working under her father as an apprentice in his art bronze foundry. She received a bachelor of fine arts in drawing, painting and art education from the University of North Texas. Cadell also studied in France, Switzerland and Italy while in college. She now owns Cadell Studios in Bakersville and works primarily in figurative clay. When not in the studio, Cadell is working with the Bakersville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department as a firefighter and first responder. She also continues to lead workshops in drawing, painting and sculpture.
