UNCA Celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

UNC Asheville will celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with several cultural programs, including a performance by the acclaimed Asian American theater company, Here And Now. Events are free and open to the public.

** Asian Movie Weekend features three popular movie screenings in UNCA’s Humanities Lecture Hall. "Princess Mononoke" followed by "Ringu" will be shown at 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 18. "Mississippi Masala" will be screened 8 p.m. Saturday, April 19.

** Here And Now’s cast of 20 young Asian American actors will offer a series of theatrical vignettes related to the diverse human experience at 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at UNCA’s Dining Hall. The troupe, founded in 1989 by John Miyasaki, strives to present non-stereotypical roles for Asian Americans in plays and musicals. Here And Now tours across the nation is currently the artist-in-residence company at East Los Angeles College.

** UNCA’s annual Worldwide Fashion Show will showcase UNCA students in traditional attire from cultures around the world at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, on the UNCA Quad. Models are members of UNCA’s multicultural and international student organizations.
