UNCA's Super Saturday Program Offers Super Classes for Kids Beginning September 27Gifted, creative and motivated 3rd-8th graders have an opportunity to explore dog obedience training, ancient Egyptian culture, veterinarian science and much more at UNC Asheville’s 17th annual Super Saturday Program beginning September 27. The program has helped more than 11,500 children from across Western North Carolina explore their interests through hands-on learning on the UNCA campus. Some 28 unique courses are open for registration. Budding artists can investigate Native American lore and crafts, creative writing, dance for musical theater, photography, pottery and sculpture. Students interested in science can take classes in biology, chemistry, physics, veterinarian science and wildlife ecology. For those who love a physical as well as a mental challenge, classes in martial arts and street-smart survival skills for youth are available. Many favorite courses from previous years will also be offered, including classes exploring Web page design, model rocketry, outdoor adventure skills and foreign languages. Several UNCA faculty members and upper-level students teach Super Saturday classes, along with outstanding public school teachers, educators, and other professionals. Super Saturday classes meet 9 a.m.-noon for six Saturdays between September 27 and November 8. Classes will not meet on October 18. All students are welcome to apply. Tuition is $55 per class. Deadline to apply is September 19. For information or to request an application, call UNCA’s Office of Special Academic Programs at 828/251-6558. Media Contacts:
