UNCA Dance Program to Perform at Asheville's BeBe Theatre

UNC Asheville's Dance Program will present "Think Globally, Dance Locally," three different performances of dance including works of modern, African and performance art at 7:30 p.m. April 25 and 26, and at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the BeBe Theatre, 20 Commerce St. Tickets cost $5 and are available at the door or by advance sale through the UNCA Dance Program. All money raised will benefit the UNCA Dance Program. Seating is limited and reservations are recommended.

The BeBe Theatre is an intimate venue perfect for this informal sharing of student and faculty work. The UNCA Dance Program seeks to integrate the student's passion for dance with other academic interests and pursuits. The works range form personal and private to farcical and purely entertaining.

Although the programs will be different each night, the premiere of "Entre Nostotros Punto, Punto, Punto…" choreographed for UNCA dancers by guest artist Nelson Reyes will be included both evenings. Reyes, a Cuban artist-in-residence with the Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre, is an internationally distinguished dancer and choreographer. He is the youngest artist to have been officially recognized by the Cuban government for his contribution to dance. His work is in the repertories of several European modern companies. Reyes is the principal dancer with the Contemporary National Dance Company of Havana.

For more information or for ticket reservations, call UNCA Dance Program Director Connie Schrader at 828/232-5652.
