TheatreUNCA Presents "As You Like It" April 23-27

TheatreUNCA wraps up its spring season with a production of William Shakespeare's "As You Like It" April 23-27 in UNCA's Carol Belk Theatre.

As a twist on Shakespeare's timeless romantic comedy, TheatreUNCA has set their production of "As You Like It" in the American old west. The restaging artfully portrays the history of cowboys and pioneers, land claims and gold rushes, while being true to Shakespeare's original work. The play is filled with comedic fools, characters in disguise and young lovers searching for their heart's desire.

Directed by Laura Facciponti, UNCA assistant professor of drama, the play features lighting design by drama student Jenny Prather, sound design by Dove Engle, costume design by Assistant Drama Professor Kendra Johnson and set design by UNCA alumna Tashah Thompson.

Curtain is at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $9 general admission, $7 senior citizens and $5 students. Because of the intimate size of UNCA's Carol Belk Theatre and often heavy demand for tickets, advance purchase is strongly advised. Tickets may be charged by phone after April 17 by calling 828/232-2291 between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. Tickets are also available at the box office 90 minutes before each curtain and online.
