Asheville Theatre for Young Audiences Offers
After-School Drama Classes

Asheville Theatre for Young Audiences (ATYA) will offer after-school drama classes September 22-November 14 for students in grades K-12. ATYA is sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Drama Department in cooperation with the N.C. Stage Company (NCSC). Classes will meet Mondays-Thursdays at UNCA and NCSC, located at 33 Haywood St. in downtown Asheville.

A movement class for grades 3-12 will be held on Mondays. "Musical Theatre" for grades 4-12 (special permission for younger children) and "Creative Dramatics" for grades K-2 will be offered on Tuesdays. A general acting class for grades 6-12 will be held on Wednesdays and "Acting with Masks" for grades 6-8 on Thursdays.

A conservatory class, available for enrollment by audition only, will meet twice a week. The course will explore acting Shakespeare, directing, audition techniques, stage combat, musical theater, technical theater and production management. Students will wrap up the course by creating and performing a holiday review December 12-14 on the NCSC stage.

ATYA courses are taught by professional instructors who have many years of experience working in theater for youth and hold graduate or undergraduate specialty degrees.

Cost for the conservatory class is $200; all other classes are $80. A multiple-class discount is available. A nonrefundable registration fee of $25 per class is required and will be applied to class fees. Payment plans are available. Class size is limited; early registration is advised.
