Registration Now Open for UNCA's Asheville Theatre for Young Audiences Summer Studio Performing Arts Camp

Registration is now open for two Asheville Theatre for Young Audiences (ATYA) summer studio performing arts camps. Courses are open to students in K-12. All classes will meet on the UNC Asheville campus.

Sponsored by UNCA’s Drama Department and Theatre UNCA, ATYA provides a venue for youth to express themselves theatrically and creatively. ATYA instructors are experienced in various fields of dramatic art. ATYA was formerly known as the Tanglewood Children’s Theatre.

Focusing on the core of performance art, students in the summer studio day camps will explore acting, improvisation, movement, dance and music. Students will also explore the process of production and creativity in theatre arts while improving dramatic skills, discovering hidden talents and having fun with friends on stage. Guest artists will conduct "mini" master classes in various areas of performance and elements of production such as props, costumes and makeup.

Session one will be held from June 16-June 27 for students in grades K-6. Students in grades K-2 will meet for half-day classes; morning or afternoon courses are available. Classes for students in grades 3-4 and grades 5-6 will meet from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Session two will be held from July 7-18. Classes for students in grades 3-5, grades 6-8 and grades 9-12 are available. Classes will meet from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Camp fees are $150 for students in grades K-2 and $300 for students in grades 3-12. A $25 deposit is required and will be credited toward the final balance. Due to limited space, early registration is encouraged.

For more information or to register, call UNCA’s Drama Department at 828/251-6610.
