Austin Peay State University Honors Asheville Man;
Philip G. Weast Student Government Office Dedicated
Philip Weast, UNC Asheville assistant vice chancellor for enrollment
management, was honored at a recent dedication of the Joe Morgan
University Center at Austin Peay State
University in Clarksville, Tenn. The new Philip G. Weast Student
Government Office, housed in the center, was named in appreciation for
Weast’s outstanding leadership and advocacy on behalf of APSU students.
During his 12 years there, Weast served as APSU’s vice president for
student affairs and dean of students from 1984 to 1996. He was integral in
helping students understand the importance of creating a new University
Center to accommodate a growing campus population.
"Without Weast’s persistence toward the goal and his wisdom in
guiding students to do what’s right for future generations, there would
not be a new University Center to dedicate," said former APSU
president Sal Rinella. "The Student Government Association was strong
and active during Weast’s tenure as vice president for student affairs.
Thus, it’s appropriate that the SGA office be named in his honor."
Founded in 1927, APSU is Tennessee’s dedicated public liberal arts
university. It offers more than 50 majors in arts and sciences, business,
education, engineering technology, nursing and human services.
