UNCA's Writers at Home Series Presents Readings by
Maria Fire and Peggy Millin
UNC Asheville’s spring Writers at Home series continues with readings
by local authors Maria Fire and Peggy Millin at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21,
at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café,
55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. Writers at Home is part of the
Great Smokies Writing Program, a consortium of the Western North Carolina
writers’ community and UNCA’s Creative Writing Program. The event is
free and open to the public.
Fire has been a freelance writer for many years who has recently
developed a love for fiction and poetry. In addition to pieces in the
Mountain Xpress, Kokopelli Notes and Massage Therapy Journal, Fire has
published a story and poem in the literary journal Dust and Fire. She won
an honorable mention in the Spring 2001 issue of New Millennium Writings
for her essay "Silver Eggs."
Millin teaches classes on the writing process and is currently working
on a mystery novel. Her book "Mary’s Way" was published in the
U.S. and in Mexico. She has also written articles for magazines such as
Native People, Lotus, New Realities and Voi Hyvin. Her short story,
"Woman of the House," appeared in the literary journal Lumina
last spring.
The final program in the series will be readings by Kathryn Stripling
Byer and Joan Medlicott at 3 p.m. May 19, at Malaprop’s.
