UNCA Kicks Off Super Saturday Program October 5;
Fall Class to be Greeted by UNCA Bulldog Mascot and Student Athletes
UNC Asheville’s Bulldog mascots and more than a dozen student
athletes will be on hand Saturday to welcome the fall Super Saturday
class. Some 675 registrations have been made for classes ranging from
conversational French and veterinarian science to photography and martial
arts.
This is the first year UNCA student athletes have been involved with
the program. "I am delighted that UNCA student athletes are
participating," said Ann Martin, UNCA Super Saturday Program
coordinator. "It’s a wonderful opportunity for the athletes to act
as goodwill ambassadors and positive role models for the younger students
coming to campus for the Super Saturday Program."
Now in its 16th year, UNCA’s Super Saturday Program provides 3rd-8th
grade gifted and motivated students an opportunity to study a wide range
of topics during the six-week program. Nearly a dozen UNCA chemistry and
biology students along with outstanding public school teachers, educators
and other professionals will teach classes. To date, the program has
helped more than 11,000 children from across Western North Carolina
explore their interests through hand-on learning on the UNCA campus.
