UNCA's Super Saturday Program Offers Super Classes for Kids Beginning March 2Gifted, creative and motivated 3rd-8th graders have an opportunity to explore youth leadership, creative writing, martial arts, drama and much more at UNC Asheville’s 16th annual Super Saturday Program beginning March 2. The program has helped some 10,500 children from across Western North Carolina explore their interests through hands-on learning on the UNCA campus. New this year are a variety of unique courses. Budding Egyptologists can explore the ancient world through mummies, food and art in the "Splash of Egypt" course. Students will gain a new perspective on the local area in "Appalachian Odyssey." Young people who face bullying will learn mental self-dense skills in "Bully Busters." Aspiring chefs and authors will enjoy "Reading, Writing and Recipes," a course that combines writing and reading stories as well as writing and cooking recipes. Many favorite courses from previous years will also be offered, including classes exploring animation, human physiology, pottery, dance, model rocketry, physics and astronomy. Several UNCA faculty members and upper-level students teach Super Saturday classes, along with outstanding public school teachers, educators, and other professionals. Super Saturday classes meet 9 a.m.-noon for six consecutive Saturdays beginning March 2. All students are welcome to apply. Tuition is $55 per class. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. Deadline to apply is February 11. For information or to request an application, call UNCA’s Office of Special Academic Programs at 828/251-6558 or click here.Media Contacts:
