UNCA Continues Concerts on the Quad Series July 8
with The Dead Poets
Performing classic poems as songs, The Dead Poets continue UNC
Asheville’s Concerts on the Quad entertainment series at 7 p.m. Monday,
July 8. The show will take place on UNCA’s quad and is free and open to
the public.
Highlighting the words of Rumi, W.H. Auden, Joyce Kilmer, e.e.cummings,
Wordsworth, Dickinson and more, The Dead Poets are known for their unique
blend of poetry and music. They call this marriage of song and verse
"musico-poetica," and believe that it allows both listener and
musician to transcend the words and the notes. The three-member band
consists of former Poetry Alive! founder Allan Wolf on drums, Tom Tracy on
guitar and Alex Alford on bass. Based in Asheville, the band first
performed together in 1996 as the One Night Dog Band.
Now in its 20th season, Concerts on the Quad series brings free fun to
the entire family on Monday evenings through July 15. The public is
invited to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs. Sandwiches, snacks and
cold drinks are sold at each event. With between 500 and 2,000 people
attending each concert, lawn-chair seating will be separate from blanket
seating in order to preserve sight lines; please look for signage when
arriving on the quad. In case of rain, the performances will be held in
Lipinsky Auditorium.
Two ticketed Folkmoot
events will wrap up the season on July 20-21 in UNCA’s Lipinsky
Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now for these two special performances and
will be available at each of the remaining Concerts on the Quad, cash or
check only.
To charge Folkmoot tickets by phone or for
more information, call UNCA’s Student Life Office at
