![]() Dixie Power Trio |
Known for playing "Dixieland music for the 21st century," the Dixie Power Trio will take center stage on UNC Asheville’s quad at 7 p.m. Monday, June 17, to continue UNCA’s Concerts on the Quad entertainment series. The show is free and open to the public.
Dixie Power Trio, a four-member band, is led by tuba player Andy Kochenour and multi-instrumentalist Zack Smith. They play a wide range of tunes, reinventing classics from the Neville Brothers, Buckwheat Zydeco, Dr. John, Louis Armstrong and Chuck Berry. Their performance will feature a combination of New Orleans music, covering zydeco, cajun, rock and roll, honky-tonk, street parade and jazz styles.
Now in its 20th season, Concerts on the Quad series brings free fun to the entire family on Monday evenings through July 15. The public is invited to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs. With between 500 and 2,000 people attending each concert, lawn-chair seating will be separate from blanket seating in order to preserve sight lines; please look for signage when arriving on the quad. In case of rain, the concerts will be held in Lipinsky Auditorium.
Two ticketed Folkmoot events will wrap up the season on July 20-21 in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now for these two special performances.
For more information or to charge Folkmoot tickets by phone, call UNCA’s Student Life Office at 828/232-5000.
