The five-piece traditional Bolivian band Alejandro Camara and Sayubu will continue UNC Asheville’s Concerts on the Quad entertainment series at 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, on UNCA’s main quadrangle. The show is free and open to the public.
Winner of seven Bolivian gold records and four platinum records, Alejandro Camara and Sayubu plays Andean music on authentic instruments of the region. Camara, founder and president of the Camara School of Music in Cochabamba, Bolivia, has written over a hundred musical scores. He is one of the few Bolivian musicians who has mastered and recorded the distinct music of each of the country’s regions.
Now in its 20th season, Concerts on the Quad series brings free fun to the entire family on Monday evenings through July 15. The public is invited to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs. With between 500 and 2,000 people attending each concert, lawn-chair seating will be separate from blanket seating in order to preserve sight lines; please look for signage when arriving on the quad. In case of rain, the concerts will be held in Lipinsky Auditorium.
Two ticketed Folkmoot events will wrap up the season on July 20-21 in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now for these two special performances.
For more information or to charge Folkmoot tickets by phone, call UNCA’s Student Life Office at 828/232-5000.
