UNCA Kicks Off Annual Philosophy Lecture SeriesDuane Davis, UNC Asheville assistant professor of philosophy professor, will kick off UNCA’s annual philosophy lecture series with a talk on "What is Life’s Meaning?" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at UNCA’s Kellogg Center, 11 Broyles Rd., Hendersonville. An open discussion will follow his talk. The program is part of the year-long, nine-part series co-sponsored by UNCA’s Philosophy Department and the Institute for Applied Philosophy. The series, "Applying Philosophy," is designed to foster discussion on philosophically significant issues of the day. All events are open to the public. A donation of $5 will be suggested at the door. Additional topics and speakers are: -- October 2: "What is Happiness and How Do We Achieve It?" Keya Maitra, UNCA assistant professor of philosophy, and Sara Worth, Furman University assistant professor of philosophy -- November 6: "Money and Virtue," Joe Young, UNCA Master of Liberal Arts degree candidate -- December 4: "What is Love and Why is It Important?" Melissa Burchard, UNCA assistant professor of philosophy -- January 15: "What is Evil and Why is There Evil?" Gordon Wilson, UNCA Philosophy Department chairman and professor -- February 5: "Morals and How We Learn to Make Moral Choices," Gordon Wilson -- March 5: "How Does One Become a Mature Human?" Don Emon, president of the Hendersonville Hemlock Society -- April 2: "What is Liberty?"
