UNCA Music Department Wraps Up Spring Concert SeasonJazz and choral music will wrap up the UNC Asheville Music Department’s spring concert season. All performances are open to the public; a $5 donation is requested at the door. ** The UNCA Jazz Lab Big Band will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. Additional small group jazz ensembles directed by Tim Haden will also perform. ** The UNCA String Ensemble and String Quartet under the direction of Jacqueline Mattingly and the University Singers under the direction of Chuck Taft will present a concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Basilica of St. Lawrence, 97 Haywood St., Asheville. Highlights will include Bach’s "Concerto in D Minor, Movement I" and "Evening Prayer" by E. Humperdink arranged by Elliot Del Borgo. ** UNCA’s instrumental groups under the direction of Jacqueline Mattingly and choral groups under the direction of Chuck Taft will hold a special Mother’s Day concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 12, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium.
