UNCA to Host Talk on Racism by Civil Rights Expert Joe Feagin

UNC Asheville will host a talk on "What a Predominately White College Campus Can Do About Persistent Racism" by Pulitzer-Prize nominee Joe Feagin at 3 p.m. Monday, March 4, in UNCA’s Humanities Lecture Hall. The talk is free and open to the public.

Feagin’s talk is based on his study of African American students’ experiences on predominately white college campuses, which was published in the critically acclaimed book "The Agony of Education: Black Students at White Colleges and Universities." He will also discuss white America’s miseducation about racism as well as the recent denial of racism in America.

Feagin, who holds a doctorate from Harvard University, is a graduate research professor in the University of Florida’s sociology department. Focusing his research on racial and ethnic relations, Feagin has received numerous awards, including a Pulitzer Prize nomination for his book "Ghetto Revolts" and an appointment as a scholar-in-residence at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
