Civil War Historian to Discuss the Confederate Experience at
Spotsylvania April 27; UNCA Hosts Western North Carolina Civil War Round
Table
Civil War Historian Robert Krick Sr. will be the featured speaker at a
special meeting of the Western North Carolina Civil War Round Table at
7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at
UNC Asheville. Krick, who recently retired as chief historian for the
Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Battlefield Park, will discuss
"An Insurmountable Barrier Between the Army and Ruin: The Confederate
Experience at Spotsylvania's Bloody Angle." Krick's talk will be
preceded by a meet-the-author session at 6:30 p.m. Both events will be
held in UNCA's Robinson Hall, room 125. The lecture is free and open to
the public.
Krick is noted for his research and for his successful efforts in
battlefield preservation in central Virginia. His most recent book,
"The Smoothbore Volley that Doomed the Confederacy" (Louisiana
State University Press, 2002) concerns the wounding of Stonewall Jackson
at Chancellorsville. His other books include "Conquering the Valley:
Stonewall Jackson at Port Republic" (William Morris & Co., 1996),
" and "Stonewall Jackson at Cedar Mountain" (University of
North Carolina Press, 1990).
