College for Seniors Holds Special Summer Term

In response to special requests from those who visit Asheville during the summer, N.C. Center for Creative Retirement’s College for Seniors will hold a short term during the month of July. The program, for adults age 50 and older, offers smaller and more informal classes in the summer than during the academic year. The emphasis is on promoting and enhancing special community events, exploring new formats for learning and examining less traditional subject matter.

Summer students can choose from 20 courses, including classes on collecting and cooking wild mushrooms, discovering the work of legendary jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, harvesting wild plants and an introduction to lap quilting. As in past terms, traditional liberal arts and several computer courses will also be offered.

College for Seniors classes meet July 1-Aug. 2. Each class is priced individually and students may take more than one class. There is no membership or parking fees to participate in the July term. For more information, call the College for Seniors at 828/251-6384.
