UNCA to Host Student-Moderated Candidate Forum;
N.C. Senate District 49 and House District 114 Candidates to Participate
UNC Asheville students will host and moderate a candidate forum at 7
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. North Carolina
Senate district 49 candidates Steve Metcalf (D) and R.L. Clark (R) and
House district 114 candidates Martin Nesbitt (D), Bill Porter (R) and
Clarence Young (L) will participate. The event is free and open to the
public.
The candidate forum is organized by UNCA’s Honors First Year
Experience course members, who have expressed a special interest in state
government. UNCA honors freshmen Katie Morris and Laura Walton will serve
as moderators. Morris and Walton will conduct the forum in a traditional
debate format, allotting equal time for each candidate’s statements and
responses.
A reception in Lipinsky Hall lobby will immediately follow the forum.
