Wilkes Central High School Wins UNCA Knowledge Bowl

The final round of the 35th annual UNC Asheville Knowledge Bowl was held Saturday, Nov. 2, on the UNCA campus. Wilkes Central High School Team One took first place. The winning team received $400 and the opportunity to move on to a national competition.

The second place went to Polk County High School. Enka High School placed third.

The competition began with 19 teams battling for a spot in the final rounds. Eight teams qualified for the double elimination finals.

Each school sent teams of six students to answer an array of questions written by UNCA faculty members on topics ranging from science and mathematics to history and literature. More than 25 UNCA faculty members and some 30 UNCA students have volunteered for the event.

The Knowledge Bowl was sponsored by UNCA, Bi-Lo, The Cliffs, Entenmann’s, Ingles, Pepsi, Sam’s Warehouse and Sodexho.
