UNCA Knowledge Bowl Kicks Off October 26The first round of the 35th Annual UNC Asheville Knowledge Bowl gets under way at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Karpen Hall on UNCA's campus. Twenty-one schools from across Western North Carolina have entered this year's event. Each school sends teams of six students to answer an array of questions written by UNCA faculty members on topics ranging from science and mathematics to history and literature. More than 40 UNCA faculty members and 40 UNCA students have volunteered for the event. Saturday's eight winning teams advance to the final round that begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in Karpen Hall. The winning team receives $400 and the opportunity to move on to a national competition. Participating high schools are: Brevard, East Rowan, East Rutherford, Enka, F.T. Foard (two teams), Gaston Day, Lincolnton, North Wilkes, Pisgah, Polk County, Rutherfordton-Spindale Central, Shelby, St. Stephens, Swain County (two teams), T.C. Roberson, West Caldwell, West Lincoln and Wilkes-Central (two teams). The Knowledge Bowl is sponsored by UNCA, Pepsi, Entenmann's, Ingles and Sam's Warehouse. Media Contacts:
