Theatre UNCA Presents "Birds of a Feather" April 25-28
Theatre UNC Asheville presents the premiere of the new musical comedy "Birds of a Feather" April 25-28 in UNCA’s Carol Belk Theatre. Directed by UNCA Assistant Drama Professor Laura Facciponti, "Birds of a Feather" stars post-baccalaureate student Strother Stingly and adjunct drama professor Robert Gretta. Adapted for stage by Facciponti with music and lyrics by Dave Bates, "Birds of a Feather" is based on Aristophanes’ "The Birds." The play features two zany characters who leave Athens and climb up to the bird realm. There they convince the king of birds to help them build a utopian city in the sky. Vaudevillian-style comic acting and musical performances will be enhanced by a unique set design that includes multi-level perches, swinging ropes, fireman poles, trap doors and a swing. Curtain is at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets are $9 general admission, $7 senior citizens and $5 students. Because of the intimate size of UNCA's Carol Belk Theatre and often heavy demand for tickets, advance purchase is strongly advised. Tickets may be purchased by phone with Visa or MasterCard after April 18, by calling 828/232-2291 between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. Tickets are also available at the box office 90 minutes before curtain and online. For more information, call the UNCA Drama Department at 828/251-6610. Media Contacts:
