Chatham Baroque to Perform at UNCA November 22

Chatham Baroque
Chatham Baroque

UNC Asheville will host an evening of music with acclaimed instrumental ensemble Chatham Baroque at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22,
in UNCA's Lipinsky Auditorium. The concert is sponsored by UNCA's Cultural and Special Events Committee.

Chatham Baroque, Ensemble-in-Residence at Chatham College and
at WQED-FM Pittsburgh, tours internationally and throughout the United States. Violinist and dancer Julie Andrijeski, violinist Emily Davidson, viola da gamba player Patricia Halverson and guitarist-lutist Scott Pauley will be joined by percussionist Daniel Mallon for this performance. Chatham Baroque performs 17th and 18th century
dance music from Latin America, Italy, France, England and Spain on instruments authentic to the period. Honored by National Public Radio as Best New Classical Artist in 1999, Chatham Baroque has released five highly acclaimed CDS.

The group will perform "Espanoleta," an exploration of diverse rhythmic music from Baroque Spain and Latin America. Dances such as the Tarantelas, Canarios and Folias come alive in this program. The Association for Independent Music nominated "Espanoleta" for a 2001 INDIE Award. Europe's Goldberg magazine deemed the program as "well performed, enjoyable music in a one-hundred percent Latin American version."

Tickets are $16 general admission. Discount tickets for UNCA and Western Carolina University faculty, staff and alumni and UNCA students and College for Seniors. Tickets may be purchased between 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the UNCA Student Life Office, Dining Hall Second Level, room 226, or may be charged by phone by calling 828/232-5000 during the hours listed above.
