UNCA Hosts Talk on "Finding the Walls of Troy"UNC Asheville will host a talk and slide presentation on "Finding the Walls of Troy" by anthropologist Susan Heuck Allen at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in UNCA’s Owen Conference Center. A book signing will follow her talk. The event is free and open to the public. Allen’s talk is based on her recent book "Finding the Walls of Troy: Frank Calvert and Heinrich Schliemann at Hisarlik." The book examines the relentlessly self-promoting amateur archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, who took full credit for discovering Homer's Troy over one hundred years ago. But Schliemann gained this status as an archaeological hero partly by deliberately eclipsing Englishman Frank Calvert, who owned the site and had launched Schliemann’s career. Allen will describe the contributions of Schliemann and Calvert to the excavations at Troy and will bring the story of archaeological activity at the site up to the present. Allen’s talk is sponsored by UNCA’s Classics Department and the American Institute of Archaeology. For more information, call Dorothy Dvorsky-Rohner, UNCA assistant professor of classics, at 828/251-6295. Media Contacts:
