UNCA Hosts the Arkansas Repertory Theatre's Production of "ART"
Yasmina Reza’s Tony-Award winning Best Play "ART" takes center stage at 8 p.m. Monday, March 4, in Lipinsky Auditorium. Called "a dazzling comedy" by Newsday, "ART" is sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Cultural and Special Events performing arts series. Produced and toured by the Arkansas Repertory Theatre in association with Dramatists Play Service Inc., "ART" paints a portrait of three long-time buddies who allow a simple white painted canvas to wreak havoc on their friendship. Strong bonds dissolve into finger-pointing and fist fights until a blue felt-tip pen appears to be the only means of resolution. The real masterpiece is this smart comedy about friendship and life, art and infinity. Translated, by Christopher Hampton, "ART" was produced on Broadway by David Pugh, Sean Connery and Joan Cullman in March 1998. Founded in 1976, Arkansas Repertory Theatre is Arkansas’ only professional, non-profit theater company. In addition to a national touring program that began in 1977, The Rep produces a body of theatrical work on two stages at its home in Little Rock. The Rep is also a leader in arts education, reaching young people throughout the region with its educational touring residencies and its in-depth internship programs. In its 26-year history, The Rep has produced over 30 world, American and regional premieres. General admission tickets are $18. Tickets may be purchased between 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the UNCA Student Life Office, Dining Hall room 226, or may be charged by phone by calling 828/232-5000 during the hours listed above.
