| For Immediate Release July 11, 2001 New Director Named to UNCA's Community Leadership Programs
Mitchell R. Williams recently joined UNC Asheville as director of Community Leadership Programs. Williams served most recently as associate director of Western Carolina University's Office of Regional Affairs. He replaces Carol Schramm, who has been named UNCA's assistant vice chancellor for student affairs. In his position at WCU, Williams' duties included directing Leadership Jackson, leading collaborative programs involving WCU and regional community colleges and chairing WCU's Community College Relations Committee. Williams recently earned a doctorate in Adult and Community College Education from North Carolina State University. He holds master's degrees from Georgetown University and WCU, and completed his undergraduate work at Hamilton College, a liberal arts college in upstate New York. He is a member of the Community Leadership Association, the Association for Consortium Leadership, North Carolina Campus Volunteers and the American Association for Higher Education.Williams and his wife Pamela live in Asheville. Their son Brian is entering the seventh grade. The Community Leadership Programs at UNCA have helped to train more than 1,500 leaders in business, government and non-profit organizations in Buncombe and Haywood counties. Media Contacts:
