UNCA Students to Hold Candlelight Vigil September 25;
Funds Raised to Go to American Red Cross

Two UNC Asheville student groups will sponsor a Community Candlelight Vigil on the campus quadrangle from 8 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, to honor the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Students plan to read the names of those who perished and place 5,000 lit candles on the steps of Ramsey Library. UNCA Chancellor Jim Mullen will speak at 9:30 p.m. The event is being organized by the UNCA Student Government Association and Underdog Productions.  Those attending are invited to sponsor a candle for 50 cents. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Relief Fund. The public is invited to attend. The rain date is Tuesday, Oct. 2.

"The students see the vigil as a way to support each other in this time of tragedy, as well as raise money for the victims.  With 5,000 candles it should be a humbling sight to behold, " said Jenny Bowen, UNCA Student Government Association vice president and event coordinator.
