| For Immediate Release February 1, 2001 UNCA's Super Saturday Program
Offers Super Classes for Kids Jump into cartooning, chemistry, mythology and much more with UNCA’s 14th annual Super Saturday Program beginning March 3. The program, for 3rd-8th grade gifted, creative and motivated students, has helped more than 9,000 children from across Western North Carolina explore their interests through hands-on learning on the UNCA campus. New this year are a variety of unique courses. Budding artists can enhance their storytelling skills with Laura Jones in "Boo! Did I Scare You?" or adventure into Northwestern native art with Mary Ann Athens in "Cool Canadian Creations." Students interested in creative movement are invited to join Israeli dancer Josefa Briant in "Fairy Tales: A Journey Through Dance and Movement" or professional mime Hilarie Porter to unlock the secrets of the silent art in "Wonders of Mime." Many favorite courses from previous years will also be offered, including classes exploring the Harry Potter book series and the science of model rocketry. Several UNCA faculty members and upper-level students teach Super Saturday classes, along with outstanding public school teachers, educators, and other professionals. Super Saturday classes meet 9 a.m. to noon for six consecutive Saturdays beginning March 3. All students are welcome to apply. Tuition is $55 per class. Deadline to apply is February 20. For information or to request an application, call UNCA’s Office of Special Academic Programs at 828/251-6558 or click on their Web site. Media Contacts:
