| For Immediate Release February 9, 2001 Spalding Gray to Perform "Morning, Noon and Night" at UNCA Feb. 26 Enormously popular writer and actor Spalding Gray will perform "Morning, Noon and Night" at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. The event is sponsored by UNCA’s Cultural and Special Events committee. For more than three decades Gray has reached out to audiences via monologues, major motion pictures, the printed word and appearances on and Off-Broadway. During this time, he has created a series of 18 monologues which have been performed throughout the United States, Europe and Australia, including "Monster in a Box," "Gray’s Anatomy," and the Obie Award-winning "Swimming to Cambodia." Noted widely for his work, Gray has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and The Rockefeller Foundation. "Morning, Noon and Night," Gray’s latest monologue, centers on the birth of his second son and domestic life in Sag Harbor, the picturesque whaling village he and his family call home. Gray leads the audience through the events of one day as he grapples with the great issues of life, as well as and delighting in the joys of everyday life. By skillfully using flashbacks, Gray shows just how much the family life has changed and charmed him. Newsday remarks that "this is no ordinary ‘Morning, Noon and Night’ description of a day’s minutiae. It’s a landscape of a soul." Tickets for the performance are $18 general admission. Tickets are available 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. at the UNCA Ticket Office, Highsmith Center room 27, and may be charged by phone by calling 828/251-6584 during the hours listed above. Tickets are also available at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. Media Contacts:
