| For Immediate Release March 30, 2001 Thomas Sayre to Jury UNCA's 34th Annual Student Art Exhibition Thomas Sayre, acclaimed artist and architect, will be on the University of North Carolina Asheville campus April 4-5. While here, Sayre will jury UNCA’s student art exhibition and give a public talk. The events are free and open to the public. Sayre will speak on combining art and architecture at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at UNCA’s Humanities Lecture Hall. UNCA’s 34th Annual Juried Student Exhibition opening reception will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, in UNCA’s University Gallery, located on the first floor of Owen Hall. Exhibition awards and scholarship announcements will be made at 7:30 p.m. Sayre, who grew up in Washington, D.C., graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with degrees in English and studio art. In 1982, he co-founded Clearscapes, a design firm that combines art and architecture to create unique commissions. The firm creates unique projects, such as North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham which was designed to tell time and indicate the summer and winter solstices. Other projects include Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh, the Atlanta Airport and the South Carolina Aquarium lobby floor in Charleston. Sayre also continues to work as a sculptor with commissioned work in various collections spanning across the United States and also in Australia, Turkey and China.
