Mother Rytasha, Founder of Food Relief International, to Speak at UNCA
April 30; "Angel of Bengal" to Discuss Social Justice in Third-World
Countries

UNC Asheville will host a talk by noted international humanitarian Mother Rytasha at 4 p.m. Monday, April 30, in UNC Asheville’s Owen Conference Center. Rytasha, who founded The Servants of Charity Food Relief International, will talk about social justice in third-world countries, with first-hand accounts of Bangladesh, India and Nepal. A panel discussion will follow her talk. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door.

Rytasha gained national attention when, in 1984, she gave up the luxuries of an aristocratic life and flourishing modeling career, to dedicate her life to service of the poor. She founded The Servants of Charity Food Relief International (FRI), a non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian organization dedicated to helping those in disasters or disastrous conditions. Since then, FRI has founded 28 schools and a free clinic; funded electrification, irrigation and agriculture projects; given interest-free loans and training for small businesses; distributed aid in earthquake, flood and refugee camps; and fed more than 300,000 people in India, Bangladesh and Nepal. Rytasha, who takes no salary from FRI, also founded Angel Press, which has sold more than 400,000 books to support FRI.
