| For Immediate Release April 3, 2001 UNCA to Host Undergraduate Conference in Philosophy April 7 UNCA will host the fourth annual Southern Appalachian Undergraduate Conference in Philosophy on Saturday, April 7, on the university campus. Students from institutions across the southeast will present their undergraduate research papers, which will be judged by members of the philosophy departments at Emory University and the University of Kentucky. The conference was developed by UNCA’s Philosophy Department, the Student Philosophical Society and Phi Sigma Tau, the UNCA Chapter of the International Honor Society in Philosophy. "We have found that this conference builds on UNCA’s undergraduate research tradition by offering more opportunities for philosophy students to share their work and ideas, and by allowing students to participate in the kinds of activities that professional philosophers engage in," said Melissa Burchard, assistant philosophy professor. The conference is free and open to the public; the price of lunch is not included. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the lower level lobby of Karpen Hall outside room 011. Presentations will be made in Karpen Hall room 011. A reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. in Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall, where prizes for the best essays will be announced. For more information, call Melissa Burchard at 828/232-2990. Media Contacts:
