| For Immediate Release June 25, 2001 UNCA's Concerts on the Quad Continues with the Asheville Civic Orchestra July 2 The Asheville Civic Orchestra will continue UNC Asheville’s Concerts on the Quad entertainment series with a show at 7 p.m. Monday, July 2, on UNCA’s main quadrangle. The performance is free and open to the public. The Asheville Civic Orchestra will jumpstart Independence Day celebrations with a patriotic, light classics and pop repertoire, including popular symphonic works by Leroy Anderson, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Duke Ellington and John Phillip Sousa. Under the direction of Ronald D. Clearfield, this 60-piece orchestra is composed of Asheville-area semi-professional and talented amateur musicians. Patrons are invited to join the Asheville Area UNCA Alumni Chapter on the Quad before the concert for a cookout. The menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, Garden Burgers and all the fixings. Adult plates are $6 and children’s plates are $3. UNCA’s Summit Orientation Program student leaders will also be selling drinks and snacks each week during the performances. Now in its 19th season, UNCA’s Concerts on the Quad brings fun to the entire family on Mondays evenings through July 9. The public is invited to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs as they relax on the quad. With between 500 and 2,000 people attending each concert, lawn-chair seating will be separate from blanket seating in order to preserve sight lines. In case of rain, the concerts will be held in Lipinsky Auditorium, which has limited seating. Due to campus road construction, handicap access to the Quad from Lipinsky Hall is partially obstructed. For alternate access directions, please call Barbara Halton at 828/251-6674.
