Acclaimed Author and Feminist Theorist bell hooks to Speak March 30

In honor of Women’s History Month, nationally-known author bell hooks will wrap up UNCA’s month-long celebration with a talk on "Creating Beloved Community: Confronting Racism, Sexism and Classism" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Lipinsky Auditorium. A book signing will follow her presentation.

Hooks, who began writing at age 19, recently released her twentieth book, "Salvation: Black People and Love." She holds a doctorate degree from the University of California Santa Cruz and has taught at the City University of New York, Yale University and Oberlin College. Currently she spend her time writing and lecturing around the nation and abroad. Hooks resides in New York City and Florida.

Tickets for hook’s talk are $15 general admission and $5 students. Tickets are available at the YMI Cultural Center, Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe and from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the UNCA Ticket Office, Highsmith Center room 27. Tickets also may be charged by phone by calling 828/251-6584 during the hours listed above.
